Some of you may even remember I sent out e-mail newsletters from around 1998 to 2001. Those were the days. Sometimes when I see someone from that time in my life, they tell me about a really great newsletter they got from me. I sent those every Sunday and rarely missed one. Again, I'm really not sure why I stopped doing this. Blogging seems to make a lot more sense than e-mailing crap to people who may or may not want to read it, thus here we are.
So what changed? Why start a blog after six years of silence? To be honest, I'm not entirely sure. I can give a few reasons that come to mind: new decade, turning 30, blogging is easier than ever ... but none of these really mean anything. Maybe I'm feeling disconnected from some of you, and this is my indirect attempt at fixing that. Maybe I miss the quick turn-around between writing something and getting feedback on it. More likely than anything else is that I enjoy writing, and I need a good forum in which to do so.
I am writing a novel right now (seriously!) and it has helped scratch a creative itch, but sometimes I just want to make a witty comment about a YouTube video, blather on about current events, or just post something silly. I can't do these things inside a novel (perhaps it's possible, but I haven't figured out how yet), and even if I could I would miss out on the immediacy offered by a blog.
I'm going to try doing some regular features on here. I won't announce them right now in case I never end up doing them, but I promise they will be fun. I'm also going to try to post something on average twice a week, even if it's just a silly picture. My favourite sites are always the ones that update frequently. Good content doesn't hurt either.
Many of the posts you will see over the next week or two will be "decade in review" kinds of things. If that annoys you, I'm sorry, and I promise it will end soon. As for the site's appearance/design, that will eventually change as well. For now, I'm fine with this standard template.
In closing, thanks for coming by, and I hope this boring, self-absorbed post hasn't turned you off the site forever.
